Moving in a city that was not built for vans
Manchester is our home patch, and it is a genuinely awkward place to move house. Victorian terraces with no off-street parking, converted mills with one service lift between two hundred flats, and a city centre that has been a building site for a decade. The move itself is rarely the hard part — the access is.
Because we are based here rather than driving in from elsewhere, we already know which streets a Luton will actually get down, which blocks want forty-eight hours' notice for a lift booking, and which ones will quietly refuse you at the door without the bay booked. That knowledge is the difference between a move that finishes at three and one that finishes at nine.
What we sort before moving day
Loading bays and lift slots, booked
High-rise blocks around Deansgate, Ancoats and the Green Quarter want a bay booked and the service lift reserved in advance. We deal with building management directly so the slot is held before the day, not argued about on it.
No lift? We bring the kit
Plenty of converted mills and Victorian conversions have one lift between a lot of flats, or none at all. We confirm what is there up front and carry stair-climbing and sack-truck kit for the blocks that only have a staircase.
Vans that fit the street
We run Luton vans, not lorries, so we get down the terraces and side streets a bigger vehicle cannot. Before the day we work out where the van will actually stand and how far the carry is, and the price reflects the real job rather than a guess.
A half-hour window, not a five-hour one
You get a half-hour arrival window and a call fifteen minutes before we pull up. In a city where a parking spot outside the door does not last, knowing when we are coming is most of the battle.
