Language School Office Move - Manchester
A teaching centre moved to a new building in one day, with lessons carrying on
A language school and cultural centre in Manchester was moving to a new building. We moved it in one day, with six of our team and two Luton vans, and the school kept teaching while we worked.
The Challenge
Lessons had to carry on during the move. Everything had to come out of a working building: the library, classroom and office furniture, files, IT and AV equipment, bookshelves, metal shelving and a 400kg safe.
Getting all of that through the lift, the stairs and the corridors without getting in the way of staff and students was the job.
The Approach
We surveyed the building a month before the move. On the day, we moved everything the busiest rooms needed before the first lesson started.
The rest moved while classes ran. We kept the noise down, kept the corridors clear and kept the route out of the building secure for the second load.
The safe went down in the building's lift and into the van on the tail lift.
The Result
The whole school moved in one day, safe and library included, without stopping a lesson.
